Naples and all of Collier County has been getting attention for a few years for a lot of good reasons. We were number four in the country for personal income in 2014. Collier County is the wealthiest county in Florida, and it has the most diverse economy in the state. Our population is growing, and as a result, housing is expanding.
In order to keep pace with our own great results in the past, income and jobs have to keep up, too. Residential housing developments are great, but in order to provide jobs for a growing population, commercial development must be a part of the equation.
Our unemployment rate is under five percent, a great number when compared to Florida and the rest of the country. That doesn’t mean new businesses aren’t needed or welcomed, though.
Commercial Developments in 2016
In Collier County, businesses continue to open up. In 2016, 76 commercial developments were built or in the building stages. You may have noticed a few familiar names cropping up around Naples: Publix, Race Trac, Wawa, Chipotle, Pollo Tropical, Texas Roadhouse Grill, Lowe’s, and Home Depot. These businesses bring with them jobs for people. Ten more self-storage facilities, on top of the dozens we already have, are in the planning stages and will be built soon.
Another big commercial story is the addition of the Arthrex Global Headquarters in our area. While they’ll bring some employees with them, they’re another company who will hire from within Collier County as well. Arthrex is a medical device and education company, focusing on orthopedic procedures and doctors. They’ve created more than 11,000 products to make minimally invasive procedures more common and easier to perform.
Future Commercial Developments
On top of these new commercial additions, and the jobs they bring with them, several commercial centers have begun or are being built. While these locations will house a wide variety of commercial and industrial businesses, all represent new employment to the area:
- Golden Gate Commerce Park
- Collier Blvd Mixed Use Commercial Center
- 1-75/Collier Blvd Commercial Center
- Westport Commerce Center
These centers don’t include all of the housing redevelopment and new development that also includes retail and dining commercial space that represents hundreds of thousands of square feet coming to Naples.
Commercial developers and business owners have their eyes on Naples and the rest of Collier County. Not only does this show that our area has room to grow and is good for business, but it brings jobs to the area which will keep us growing for a long time.
